a rock conversion

Post by Obadiah »

8) before i moved to KY all i listened to was rap, r&b, and reggae...after moving i found i was missing out on what real music was...i first song that turned me on to rock was bonjovi's "its my life" not only did the song have a awsome riff but the lyrics kicked butt...then came breakin benjamin, linkin park, and evanescence...now...i hate to say it but everytime a rap song comes on i feel a heaving in the bottom of my belly...although some artist has kept their appeal for me, and occasionally i have found myself remembering the good ole rap of the late 90's and early 00's...but back to the now...for a long time i thought alicia keys was all that a smurfslap and a bag of angry moddies...until i heard amy lee blow...is it just me or does amy lee from evanescence kick butt...she can write, she can sing and she rocks out...i found this online...the cool thing about it is she sounds better live than she does on the cd....discuss!

I'm addicted to female solo 'emo' artists at the moment. Martha Wainwright and Regina Spektor are getting most of my time. Mmm...

In my opinion, they play her voice up way too much. She needs a better band and they need to focus more on the music and less on her voice

my parents/gardians were motown fanatics....i grew up listening to the temptations, dramatics, and stuff like that till i was a teen...then i swiched to bel biv devoe, mint condition, rif, jodici, boyz 2 men, heavy d, krs one, rakim, and peeps of the likes...

when i moved here people litteraly thought i lived under a rock they'd ask me about led zeplin, good charlotte, guns and roses, AFI and bans like that...and i have a huge blank stare on my face because i had never "gotten the led out" before...then i ask them about Wu-tang and they say..."dude...whats that a chinese resturaunt?"

The problem is not knowing who U2 is (at least in a basic sense) is like not knowing who Frank Sinatra is, or Prince, or Madonna, or even Oprah.. it's on a massive scale.

The groups you've listed are for the most part on the minor scale. Although not knowing Led Zeplin can easily be at the same scale.

as much as a Amy Lee fan i am ive got to say they defenately do play her voice up alot...and without the band i doubt as well she be as big as she is....im honestly a fan of evanescence because everyone in that group kicks serious ass at what they do...the drummer is awsome...the lead, electric and bass guitarist-outstanding....but when amy lee starts playing their complete its like Voltron...five peices fusing creating something devastating

you'd have to be dead not to know who frank sinatra is or the "ratpack"...the best dancer/singer of his time...i also know a great deal of singers and dancers (mostly because of old movies) of that time....dorris day, jerry lewis, dean martin, shirley temple, danny kay...my brain is giving me a hemmorage trying to place the names with faces...lol...sammy davis jr...i gotta stop there for now i think i just broke something

the majority of people on this board's musical tastes are so far off from mine... my favorite bands:

Tool
Pink Floyd
Porcupine Tree
Led Zeppelin
A Perfect Circle
Alice in Chains
SoundGarden
etc.

I find that a lot of folks around here are into techno/electronica which I like, but definitely not what I usually listen to... unless under the influence of something.

EDIT: as long as you don't start dressing like a girl and cutting yourself I'm ok with it.

My Chemical Romance is listed as Emo in several lists I've seen.

Some of us have previously listed our musical interests...

There's also these sorts of things:
