Desperately Seeking Help...

Hey guys.... I am in desperate need of help from anyone who can spare a couple minutes.

I have been working in Adobe Illustrator CS2 since it has been out and never had any problems. But recently on the largest project I have ever worked on... all my saved files for this project are corrupt and will not open completely (only opens a small portion of it) and gives an error code. After much research, the problem is a bug in CS2 when saving any project that contains brush strokes made by a WACOM tablet that are then later cut in half using the scissors tool. I know right... just my luck.

So... I am unable to open my project files that I have literally spent days working on. But apparently there is a fix. I just need someone who has Illustrator CS (not CS2... but it's predecessor, CS) to open the file, resave it, and send it back to me. Because apparently this bug is not in Illustrator CS and resaving it in CS then reopening it in CS2 solves the problem.

So if anyone here has Illustrator CS and has a few minutes to take my file, open it, resave it, and send it back to me... I would forever be in debt to you. Let me know if any of you guys have Illustrator CS and can help. Thanks a bunch. Take care.

Sorry I can't be of help here, but dang that is one crazy bug.. I would not like to hunt that!

I'm also a wacom user, so if it's any consolation - thanks for the heads up! :)

This is why I enforce all assets for a project to be in version control. Sorry, I only have CS2 on hand.

What does that mean and how do you do that? Thanks.

Jenk... thanks... it has taken me all day to figure this one out (and months for others). Adobe kept telling everyone that the problem was OS/hardware related. Stupid Adobe.... passing off errors to everyone except themselves.

Are you asking what version control means and how it is done?

To make a long speech short, version control allows you to keep previous versions of files without cluttering up your directories with 20 copies of "johnny plays." CS2 comes with a variant of version control called Version Cue CS2. I prefer Subversion, while others sometimes prefer CVS or Visual Source Safe. There are others out there, but they are either niche players (Alienbrain) or just minorities to the already mentioned tools.

We've had discussions on version control previously, so if you want more information I suggest you seek out those threads first. ;)
