Tylenol or Ibuprofen?
Not your typical post, sounds like something a drug addict would post, i'm not one of them thank god. Anyway, my doctor, quite some time ago, declared me a constant migraine victim and told me to take painkillers three times a day; one medicine that I hardly ever take.
However, I was always taking Ibuprofen. Everyone I take to, pharmacists included, tell me to try Tylenol.
What are your thoughts?
P.S. Yes I use Excedrin Migraine but I only take them when I have such a bad migraine I can't walk.

Different people react differently to each - Tylenol is Acetaminophen while Advil is Ibuprofen.
I've always found Ibuprofen to work far better for me. My roommate claims it does nothing for him, while Acetaminophen works wonders.
Incidentally, I seem to remember that a consistent dose of Acetaminophen damages either your liver, stomach or both. Definitely consult your doctor!
Have you heard of the work being done with electromagnetic migraine therapy? Apparently it's extremely promising!

Excessive use of Tylonol not only can damage your liver, it can do so without warning and can result in the need for a liver transplant. Without warning symptoms.
There are dozens of medications designed specifically for migraine, and if your doctor is telling you to take an over the counter he is a quack. Go to a qualified neurologist. You do not have to live like that.
I take one medication regularly to prevent migraines, which reduced them from 4/week to 1/week, and I take a medication called Axert when one occurs. It causes the migrain to abort in about 10 minutes almost without a trace and without side effects.
There are other medications similar to Axert, and response to them is highly individual. You have to try different ones inder the supervision of a neurologist to find the right one for you.
After suffering for 20 years with migraines, a good neurologist changed my life. Go now.

I have heard that you should alternate acetaminophen and ibuprofen if you are taking more than a single dose, such as for the flu, because of the problems with both of them.Kieran Huggins wrote:Incidentally, I seem to remember that a consistent dose of Acetaminophen damages either your liver, stomach or both. FYI, many "extra strength" formulas are simply two-plus aspirin and caffeine. Likewise "migraine" formulas are simply two aspirin, one acetaminophen and caffeine. So three pills and a cup of coffee/tea probably does the same thing.

Be careful with Ibuprofen,
I knew somone who took Ibuprofen for chronic back pain and he
went into the hospital because of kidney shock.
He took it for extended periods of time and in large doses.
I use it for extreme pain such as back and or tooth ache,
and also for inflammation. But I only take 600 to 800 milligrams
(3 to 4 pills (advil)) when I really need it and never for extended use.
I also know a lot of people who are allergic to Ibuprofen and have to take Aleve.

I used to take Ibuprofen all the time for headaches... but a couple years ago I found a solution to migranes that didn't involve medicine at all!
I swear by this, and all my friends who have had headaches that have done this as well swear by it. I found some hypnosis tapes and one of them was called "Get rid of your headache". And it is so good I haven't been able to stay awake through the 10 minute session. Everyone I know that does this with a migrane falls asleep and wakes up with it gone. I don't know the name of the doctor (british guy)... but man, does this stuff work. I put it on my iPod and anytime I get a headache... it is gone in 10mins. And I get some bad migranes. So check it out.

Unfortunately the doctor doesn't say his name in the tape, but the title of the audio is called "Get Rid of Your Headache". I googled it and couldn't find it... however there are a lot of other audio hypnosis out there that probably work just as good. Later on when I plug my iPod back into my computer, I'll do some research on the file and try to find out for you.
