How do I get it off my iPod? It has been on there forever and I don't have it on PC. Is it okay to just copy it over to the PC with Windows Explorer? I thought I heard somewhere that it is risky to do that with an iPod.

You can copy it off your iPod... if you can find it! iPod renames all their aac files funny things to prevent easy copying. Thankfully, other nerds have already blazed this particular trail for us. In fact, it's paved!
