Do people actually pay money to write in plain text? Teehee.

They do. And sometimes it's very nice to have a tool for rapid development at hand. Had no closer look at this product but the advantage of using such a thing is:
  • writing a standard application in 5 Minutes than in 2 hours makes your boss happy
  • makes it easier to maintain a certain look&fell throughout a company/group
  • avoids common pitfalls (assuming the product is flawless ;) )
  • enables non-programmers to create interfaces and talk on virtually the same level
  • keeps repetitive, borring tasks away from you
  • and so on, and so on
Not everyone is willing or has the time to code everything over and over again from the scratch by hand.
And not everyone who wants to create a report is a developer ;)

The real annoying thing is, that this is a cross-post ( viewtopic.php?t=6274 ) and General Discussion is a more appropriate forum as I think a few adds (even for commercial products) do no harm. Opinions?

I agree that a good IDE is useful and often worth its cost, this one in particular looks like a browser based thingy, without having tried it just looked at the info it doesn't look all that great, but who knows..

A post on a very relevant product I don't think matters that much, should be written informative and not just a link..

I just purchasez Zend Small Busines solution myself, zend studio and more, and for just having used it a few hours i like it a lot, epsecially the project features, listing all functions in the whole project, and the debugging stuff, not a real gui/ide, but combined with use of Dreamweaver and templating is pretty close :)

I know that a few adverts don't destroy a forum, however, the terms and conditions do clearly state that if you want to advertise you have to ask an admin first. The problem with advertising is the number of people who sign up simply to put an advert up and who have no intention of ever returning or offering anything else to the community.

Some adverts are definitely more useful than others though. Hence the new sticky thread (that I'm creating after this one) specifically for recommendations on PHP editors because it comes up all the time and there's no reason why someone shouldn't be able to advertise there in the same way that hosting providers advertise in the Hosting forum.

Edit: That new thread I mentioned is:

Talking about RAD.. and quick development...

For you programmers... its not php related but its something we (uruguayan programmers) are very proud of: http://www.genexus.com

there you can "code" you application (standard applications, db driven) and generate code for many platafroms (AS/400, linux, Win32)... it a very cool app....

its very nice... I do not want to advertise here... (i do not work in Artech) but its nice that you know it exists...
