Kieran Huggins wrote:If you want to smoke, smoke. You won't be able to quit unless you actually want to.
And for many it is also true that they don't want to quit because they think they can't
Here in Europe there are more and more countries who finally disallow smoking in bars and restaurants. Like Belgium (my southern neighbors), Italy and a couple of other countries. Maybe for America that's nothing, as the anti-smoking has been going on there for a bit longer. But here in Europe it's still a slow process.
I'm glad though and hope the Netherlands follow soon. As it is now, the bars and restaurants have to decide for themselves to allow smoking or not. But obviously that doesn't work. They are afraid they loose clients. But in those countries which have banned smoking in bars the turnover has actually increased. Maybe because more non smokers can finally go out or because people eat more if they aren't in someone else's smoke.
But back to quitting: I agree with Kieran. If you want to smoke, fine. As long as you don't bother other people with it I don't mind. Also, because people who smoke live around ten years shorter (so less retirement remittance necessary) and pay a lot of taxes (on the cigarettes), the extra costs of treating smoking related deceases are well compensated. So financially it doesn't matter too much for a country if people smoke or not. (ok, that might be totally wrong, but you get the point

)
Anyway, good luck Ninja!

thanks guys for the support... encouragement definitely helps. I really wanted to quit and I was ready to quit, and I'm 100% confident that I'm done smoking. Four years I've wasted $$ and ruined my health. I'm DONE with it. I consider it a relationship that just didn't work out...

England sees it's smoking ban come into place from the 1st of July (which is also the National No smoking day.)
Amsterdam could lose out of tourism if they ban smoking (of more than just tobacco.)

There going ban that to? I haven't even gotten a chance to go to Amsterdam. Not that I care about tabacco, but the 'more than just' that you refer. I haven't done the 'more than just' since 1997. But I would if I were in Amsterdam, just while I was there because I don't want to worry about feeling like a criminal.
If anyone has a problem with my subliminals, I am not actually saying what you think I am saying. But if by chance you are more open minded of a relaxed persuasion, I'm saying exactly what you think I am saying!

smoked from 16 - 23
My trick to quiting was to do something that would make me feel horrible. I took up submission wrestling & jiu-jitsu. Everytime I felt like throwing up or tapped from fatigue I knew it was from smoking. It gave me a reason to stop.

Good work, NSG.
When I go out for my next smoke break, I'll have an extra one in your honour.

Okay, that was a lame excuse to increase my cig intake
