I use kate when I stay in graphic mode ... when I'm using text mode, I use the vi ...
The editor not changes your work ( to best ), only you can do this!
Dreamweaver is a good editor, but it don't do magic I think!
At home I use ScIte, at work I use UltraEdit. Anywhere else I use notepad. Gotta love the classic. Oh when I'm visiting in-laws, I use pencil and paper and pray they just leave me alone.
Sami wrote:I officially have a new favorite PHP editor! PSPad is my new Win32 alternative to Dreamweaver. It's just as powerful and it doesn't even take up 1/4 as much system resoruces as DW does (just a meg or so of ram, compared to 30+).
100% Freeware and 100% worth a try if you are in the market for a new edtior.
Here is a list of some of it's features:
- work with projects
- work on several documents at the same time (MDI)
- Save desktop session to later reopen all open files
- FTP client - you can edit files directly from the web
- macro recorder to record, save and load macros
- search and replace in files
-external compiler with catch command output, log window, log parser for each environment for "IDE" effect
- syntax highlighting auto set by file type
- user-defined highlighters for exotic environments
- auto correction
- inteligent internal HTML preview using IE and Mozilla
- full HEX editor
- spell checker (with downloadable dictionaries in multiple languages)
I do NOT recommend this anymore.
It has a lot of customizable features, but that is also its downfall. So many bugs occur as soon as you customize it in a specific way. Not just little bugs either, these are ones that would make programming such a headache.
I think I posted here before but I never mentioned *nix ones.
Crimson on Windows. Emacs (with php-mode elisp loaded) on *nix systems.
Great thing about emacs and elisp highlighting extensions is that I can SSH from anywhere in the world without actually having the software with me and still edit my code in color. It's got plenty of useful features too, not just for PHP
I use on Linux(Fedora core 3) VIM(Gvim) and Bluefish and on WinXp PSPAD(http://www.pspad.com). Pspad is czech source editor. He is translated to English, French,...

Yup. I'm about to have a change of mind. Sorry to say I'd never used Zend Studio until a few days ago. I downloaded the Linux version for evaluation. WOW! What can I say? I don't think you could want more from an editing environment. Worth the money if you're not just a casual coder too.
Has anyone tried HAPEdit by mistake...
I am currently using it as an alternate to Dreamweaver MX.
I musta say it is great... (but everybody sez that about theirs )
Heard about nvu. will be trying that soon
