my 2cents:
Notepad and Wordpad.
I am a college student, what you expect? Dont have cash enough to buy me some pretty editor (pretty in terms of functionality... and not GUI)

Notepad and Wordpad lack syntax highlighting. They also both save documents using a carriage return & line feed rather than just line feeds. If you want something bare bones go with Crimson Editor. I used that for a long time.

There are plenty of free editors that are obviously WAY better than Notepad and Wordpad.
Using Notepad or Wordpad is NOT L337...it is backward

Well I finished my trial of Zend Studio. It has some very nice features, but not the kind of features I would use. I then tried out dreamweaver for about a week. I went back to where I started from and started using Quanta again. I wish there was a windows version..

For a lightwieght editor, notepad++ is still my favorite. For a lighter, but powerful editor, TSEditor is a nice piece of software. For a full bodied, cup of morning joe kinda of editor, Zend Studio is the watermark for me. Dreamweaver irritates me something awful. But that is just me.

I just got Zend Studio and all I can say is this:
Moving to Zend Studio from Dreamweaver is like moving from DOS to Windows XP. Wow.
