Vista has escaped!

The pricing is attrocious - I just realised if it's being sold as if 1USD = 1GBP, than the Irish price (practically reliant in GBP pricing since we're a wee island) is going to be really bad. It was also published earlier in the week that to upgrade to Vista you first require a working copy of XP to be installed (bye bye check disk) which of course means I need to keep three Windows disks - 98, XP and Vista if I upgrade, and have a SATA driver handy to reinstall XP the next time I upgrade... Bah!
I wonder if Nvidia will get their non-Beta drivers out the door today... I'm still using a beta on XP for 8800 support (after upgrading from the October version that came on the manufacturer disc.

I'm a mac guy, so I make up about three percent of the computer market.
That being said if I—as a mac guy am going to remain a minority I would
prefer that the majority was a Linux bases community. I could live with
being out numbered my Linux people. In fact it would be cool! Bill Gates has
a drooling eighty percent of the PC market and he just slaps his customer base
in the face every day.

FUD (But this time it ain't coming from MS :p You're only required to have a working XP version if you want to use a 'Vista Upgrade' version... )Maugrim_The_Reaper wrote:It was also published earlier in the week that to upgrade to Vista you first require a working copy of XP to be installed

Microsoft decided they didn't want any of the major retailers like Best Buy and Circuit City to have "Midnight Sales" like they did with XP. I guess they realise there won't be hordes of drones lining up outside stores for this OS.
But then again I wonder how many mindless drones were in front of stores bright and early this morning for their copies. What is going to tick me off is they will be forcing PC suppliers to install Vista on new PCs and not give them the choice of offering XP anymore. So even if retail sales are in the toilet they will force everyone to get it through new PC sales. Another reason to hate Microsoft.
Oh, and many PC professionals are WARNING against doing an upgrade install from XP to Vista. They say you should wipe the hard drive and install everything from scratch because Vista is even worse than XP when it comes to upgrading from a previous OS. You will usually have things that fail to function properly, crashes and unexplained hangs and slowdowns if you use the upgrade option.
Vista is basically 5 years worth of bad coding to give a cool looking 3D interface. :p
And this is another big Joke on people...

Microsoft recommends machines have at least 512Mb of RAM, a 800Mhz processor and 15Gb of hard disk space.

I recall hearing something on the news out here in Silicon Valley that there were stores holding midnight sales, and that they are pushing this stuff hard. $99 USD for the upgrade, $249 for the full blown version, 6 years in the writing... one more bomb of a craptastic Microsoft product.
And if they start forcing people into Vista with new PC purchases, there is going to be major shiznit hitting the fan...
And I agree with you Ninja. I think there is some sanity in the developer community when a majority of developers have a strong disliking toward Billy boy and horde of Viking Software bullies and a large acceptance for the open-source, FREE type stuff.

I heard to day that if you install Vista as upgrade you invalidate your xp license. You'll never be able to install it again. What's worse I also heard today that the upgrade disk doesn't include an option to wipe out the drive and do a clean install of the system. You have to have XP on your machine already. It's clear with this strategy in place MS is not interested in selling upgrades. And with every one else in this thread I add .. I hate MS.
