Site Point Kits

Post by alex.barylski »

Anyone ever buy those web developer guides? With all the business forms, etc?

I've read the demo chapters...it's interesting but i'm not sure i'm willing to shell out $300 or whatever they cost.

I could certainly use some pre-made agreements, forms, etc...

I'm working on something of a presentation right now as well so any ideas here would be a good asset.

Anyone care to add something - maybe a similar kit which you can buy online in PDF and print?

My girlfriend, as a "Registered Graphic Designer" got a kit like that from the RGD association... basically a bunch of "best practice" guidelines and salary comparisons for different positions in different parts of the country.

Web development tends to be a far more cut-throat field that way, lots of amateurs out there willing to work for peanuts, and lots of clients who can't really tell the difference.

I doubt such a kit could be that useful beyond a few printable contracts, but you can likely find those on the web for free. Of course, I'm talking out me arse there a little, 'cause I haven't searched for them ;-)

Have you tried searching their forums? I think they have quite a load of information on their products on their forums.

I've looked at their forums...but I figured I would likely get a biased opinion there much like I would here if I asked:

Whats better: PHP or ASP :P

Either it's amazing and some of us are making killer money using the kit or no one here has actually tried it...

I have the business kit. It contains a lot of good info. At least for me as I just started my business a while ago and didn't have any clue about running one. And all the examples of letters, briefs, etc are handy. So if you learn a thing or two from the kit and apply it to your business, you probably earn back the money you spend on them easily. However, it is still a lot of money, so sometimes I can't help thinking that sitepoint/the authors are making the most money out of it ;)

I do have some links to other, similar material about running a web business. I'll try to find them.
