you'd probably need a PhD in Physics in order to create desktop applications, but I doubt the web would change overly much.

in order to really take advantage of that kind of interface, you would not only need to change the web standards for site/page programming you would need to provide completely redesigned browsers capable of running the new standards.

however, as an way of accessing the computer i think its amazing. although in the event of ever actually using one ;) i would still expect to be able to run Firefox / Open Office etc on there.

You would see a new set of applications that use the new interface, but without heritage support for office/browser/desktop apps of the moment you would not see it take off.
