Has anyone ever actually scored a contract advertising in here?
My rates are pretty affordable...at $25/hour I can almost compete against places like India or other low cost countries...and yet...I have a helluva time finding contract work for my spare time, despite references, previous works and a personal gaurantee that I meet any quote I give within a day.
Where do you guys go contract hunting? Those PHP freelance sites are pointless...all gigs goto the lowest bidder (usually) and usually to those with 25 gold stars because they signed up on day one
Do you throw up flyers ads in your local community? Not sure that would work here as my city seems to suck for PHP activity...just curious?
Craigslist was quite productive for me. I'd suggesst you get in touch with few smaller marketing/web agencies in your area and just stick with them. It'll help you build long term relationship and it's always much easier working with someone local.

Word of mouth. About 75% of my clients have come from referrals. I'd say the rest have come from people that have seen my activity on the internet and feel I am worth a shot on their projects.
