Firefox takes forever to render images

I have been having this issue with firefox where images take unusually long to render or download or something. The reason I say rendoer OR download is because if they just took a long time to download, it would be able to load them fast the second time. That is not the case. Take this site for example. When I click "View new posts" all of the icons on the page take about 1/2 of a second to render on the page. If it were just a connection issue, once that first image was loaded, all the rest could be pulled from cache, right? Anyway, I'm just wondering if anybody has had this same issue or has heard of it.
I've tried disabling all my extensions, uninstalling and reinstalling, clearing the cache, but nothing seems to make a difference.

What if the images werent being cached? Then it would take forever every time.

If the cache expires or they are tagged as not to be cached...

There are several known bugs with Firefox 2 and it's handling of images/page downloads. I don't have any specific links to the Mozilla forums, but if you search there for 'Firefox so slow' you will get all sorts of results.

Do you by any chance use the web developer toolbar? I've accidentally triggered the disable cache feature and not noticed, or perhaps one of the image tools got activated...
Start FF in safe mode (all extensions disabled) and see if the problem persists.

Safe mode for me always loads faster (of course all the pretty tools are gone, but at least it is faster).

DING DING! You da man!
EDIT: strange... I disabled all the extensions and tried it and it still happened. Must have missed the web developer toolbar.
