IMHO, I could see this topic first starting out in a mod forum, but if the idea got serious I think the public should get a chance to voice their opinions as removing PHP from the name is pretty signficant.

We usually bring these items to the community once it is determined that we should and after we determine the best method for doing so.

Incidentally, the topic of removing PHP from the name was never at issue. The issue stemmed from the term 'DevNetwork Forums' and 'The Developer's Network' (as seen in the title of these forums) not having a reference to PHP in them and the fact that we do not identify ourselves as 'The PHP Developer's Network'.

Sorry to see you go..

PHP on it's own, in my opinion can not produce, what people on these forums generally want to do, build good websites. Javascript, CSS and HTML all are used as well. Sure when I have a problem I may look at other forums, even post in them but generally this is my first point of call. My job is a PHP developer but I need to also know the other bits and pieces so I can do my job. As for changing the name, well the first thing I see is the PHPDN logo. When initially coming onto this forum I found it by searching for PHP forum.

As a side note as this is likely to be read by the moderators... Thanks all of you guys and gal.

why are you guys trying to change anything in the first place? whats wrong with it now? a name change, is this really over a name change?

Also, i heard talk about how it was back in the good ol day or whatever and 'lets get it back to that ya ya ya!' which is stupid. Seriously stupid. Whats wrong with it now? Are the members too few? Maybe not smart enough? Well thanks then. What do you want from us anyway that we are not providing right now that will bring this place back up to its 'hay day'? This isnt the first time I have heard this garbage before and it probably won't be the last (hooray for the 'devnet revival' forums!). Hope your new wave of whoever are better than us now.

And lastly, to Sami, if you really believed in anything you said about liking this forum and whatnot then you wouldn't leave because that would be doing the exact opposite of helping the forum.

gah, i need a beer.

edit: this is the 4th highly regarded member i have seen leave because of conflicts with the mods or used-to-be mods. Not saying anything bad just pointing out the facts.

yea it's getting ridiculous... people really need to control their egos. (not saying that the mods or sami have an ego in this case, but in the past that's been an issue)

I don't understand why people get so worked up over little things. This is an internet forum where people help eachother with PHP and web development problems. I find it to be very well moderated and there are very few issues except when people decide to air dirty laundry for everybody to see rather than just deal with the person(s) they have an issue with. Once again, I don't know anything about this particular case. I'm referring to a few past members who suddenly decided this forum and its moderators were on some kind of power trip...

Why not leave the mods to do what ever they choose to do and just continue helping out with peoples' problems while (probably) posting our own? At the end of the day, I'm here for the latter rather than to try to follow a soap opera or to try and have a say in one.

Seems to be quite a lot of funny business with the MODS. When I first started, all I got were PM's telling me I did something wrong , again! I think instead of calling them the MODS we should call them the ODDS!

And by the way shiznatix, I need beer too! :drunk:

Well you know how to post here now, huh? At least they didn't call you out on it in front of everybody (other than using php tags when posting code, which can hardly be helped). If you'll notice, this forum is extremely well organized and easy to read, and easy to find things. That's because when people post in the wrong place, or post incorrectly, the mods are ON IT. Isn't that "odd behavior" what mods are supposed to do... MODERATE the forums... ?

No thats not quite what I'm getting at, certain rules must be enforced. It's just the mannerism seems a bit fishy to me and I can't quite put my finger on it. But emphasis on BEER!
