Job Jumping

Post by infolock »

I didn't think I'd be changing jobs ever again. When I obtained my position with Clear Channel Communications as a PHP developer, I thought to myself, "This is it. This is where I'm going to stay".

Funny how things never work out that way. So, less than a year and a half later, here I sit 4 weeks in at my new positoin with HSR Business to Business as their php guy. Once again, I find myself saying "Ok... for real this time. This is where I'm going to stay".

I hope this is true. I really like the people here, my bosses, and the atmosphere. Not to mention, how often do you find a business who acknowledges God in their lives and how much he as effected their ability to perform in their business motto?

I thought that about the company I am at now.. I handed my notice in last week (after 6 years, though.) :P

Change is good. Keeps you up to date, on your toes, and best of all: It never gets stale. :)

I can't wait to leave my job in September when I go to Oz. I love programming, I just don't like the way my workplace is run.

I'm hopefully going to get a programming job in Melbourne. My friend is trying to help me out with a job at Lonely Planet :D

Reassurance is a major plus in my book, so thanks for that. I felt so very wierd the first few days after I started though. Know what I mean? Almost like it wasn't real, but it was.

The setup is really sweet though. We get to use the cool new LCD Cisco IP Phones, they let me code however I want, and are all about suggestions for new ways of doing things. Most companies I've found could care less what you think, let alone actually try it out.

The best part: I can code not only in php, but I have .NET developers and actionscript developers in the same building. And all of them are very easy to talk to and quick to help you out in case you are wanting to learn their language (C#, VB, ASP, Flash, whatever).

heh. Like I said, it just doesn't feel real. But it is, and I think it's going to be a great ride.

Either way, it's good to hear others going through the same steps. Good luck to us all =P

I should probably also add that this job change will be into my first role with the title "Software Developer" \o/

I've done a fair bit of dev work in my current company (and although it's the same company for the past 6years, I've been in a different team/role every year.) but it's still primarily support - which gets very boring, very fast. Only so many password resets or other simple tasks a man can do before boredom..

Anyway - yay! 90% increase in pay, too.. which is nice. 8)

Are you the one who works where I used to work? Same company anyway? Not posting details for obvious reasons. I think I may have my wires crossed. Big IT company either way.

... It has to be asked ... Do they know that?

Or, do they now know who "Jenk" is...

That is a nice increase, they must of been screwing you bad at the previous job.

I would like to stay in one company forever, but the world does not work that way anymore. At least not if you want to move up quickly in your career.

Good luck infolock,

I myself don't really think I'll ever find one of those kind of jobs. After 2 to 3 years I'm always hitting the road, and probably always will.

I handed my notice in last week.

My current employer does not know who Jenk is, but my new employer just might, as my email address on my job application/CV is jenk@<blah> :)
