That's a completely baseless and unreasonable assumption/conjecture. The fact is Microsoft lead absolutely nothing on the internet. In every single metric Microsoft come close to last based on web server technology, language penetration, technology adoption, and so forth. Opening with a statement that is so hopelessly wrong isn't a very good idea.

Web3? We've only just started on Web 2, and even then noone's come up with a concrete definition that everyone can agree on. As for whether PHP will have any place on the internet in the future, I think you're asking in the wrong place. This is a forum dedicated to PHP, we're going to be quite biased in it's favour.

There is a major misconception of what web 2.0 is. In all reality, I think the guys at O'Reilly might have jumped the gun on even saying that we're in the web 2.0 world. In all reality, the web works exactly the same, we just have added some new tools and functionality. Until the way we use the web is revolutionized past browsers, we'll still be in 1.0. The next step would be to take out the need of browsers and redefine what the internet is used for.
