Good color for an office

Post by emmbec »

What color do you guys think will be ok for an office?? It is an office for a web programming company. I just acquired a small office and I'm not sure what color would be ok for it.

Thanx!

Most walls white, and then one or two walls a bright, energetic color. Light green (bright) or orange.

That's how I'd do it if I ever get out of this crammed, dark cellar :)

Agree - but orange over green IMO. Dark colours should be avoided at all costs. You want bright and cheery, not doom and gloom.

Funny, you wouldn't expect to hear this from you, considering your avatar

Yeah and make sure you've got plenty of windows. Aftificial light should be kept to a minimum in an office environment :)

I'd go with a light orange myself. :)

We've got a really nice shade of blue at my web development company. As long as it's bright enough, all will be well. I prefer to have some color. Just nothing gloomy.

I vote for soul-sucking corporate grey.

I like a sort of feather white (or a milk white) base with some highlight walls (blues and oranges complement each other very well). Don't forget the artwork to make it more friendly.

Doh! 8O i forgot the plants. Ficus are nice, since they require very little water. :D

I thought it was a personal office? If so go wild - if you get a personal office you have graduated to godhood ;). If it's for those cupboard bound underlings, they should of course be treated to some dull grey washed out colour just so they understand their situation is hopeless .

Nah, I reserve my avatar's personality for when I'm swearing at the bugger who managed to frag me in CS. ;)

I agree on the Ficus: need little water and they are nice looking as well.

Ficus bemjamina has one odd little quirk - it doesn't like to be moved. Any change in it's ambient lighting, including the direction it's coming from, and the plant will tend to go into sort of a snit. It'll wilt and drop a bunch of leaves. You think it'd dying and will probably want to water it more. No need, just give it the usual water (which is not much). It will get over it's dismay at having been moved after a week or so and will recover nicely.

I like the sound of an aquarium in my office. It really sets a tranquil mood that I can work with. Go for brighter colors and massive amounts of natural sunlight. Fake lights kill my eyes. I had a buddy of mine pass up a really good job offer because he would have had to work in a building with no windows.

I'd go for some light but saturated blue with orange trim and maybe some green here and there. Aquarium and plants for the win.
