Ok thanks!

Now I have another question in this same topic. My laptop won't charge, and I have to send it to HP, and the battery is dead. Is there anyway to hookup another computer and access the HD and get the files off of it?

If they don't know that you pulled it out then they won't have to void the warranty?

Arn't there usually security seals to prevent this dishonest behavior?

Can't you just connect the machine to the power cable to get power? Then you can set up networking on it so you can access it from another machine if needed (which I don't think you'd need since the power is on).

When I connect the power, it doens't charge/turn on at all. Can't take it out either, there's a seal.

If you got no power, then the only way to get your information from your harddrive is to pull the drive out and install it into another machine. Which is really not an option since the that would void your warranty.

Maybe you can have the folks working on the machine at the warranty provider image the drive for you?
