TV recommendation

Post by daedalus__ »

My company wishes to purchase a TV and possibly software to replace their job boards.

When a piece of equipment goes out on a job they sticky a little plastic card with a picture of the equipment, the serial number, location, and job status on a white board. They want something like the flight time boards in airports and stuff.

They want something over 50 inches and it needs to be able to recieve input from a computer. I have no idea about televisions and would really appreciate a recommendation.

Thanks

P.S. how is everyone

I'm kind of an A/V nut... and own two 50+ inch plasmas and Tubes. I only buy Mistsubishi's... I'm yet to see anything compare.

Plasma, LCD, or DLP? In a single unit, or would a normal projector work? What's the budget?

I have a Westinghouse LCD TV (1920x1080) - I think it's exactly what you're looking for:

Inputs: 1 HDMI, 2 DVI-D with HDCP, 1 VGA, 2 component video, 1 RGB, 1 mini stereo, 1 S-video, 1 composite video, 4 stereo audio

47" for $1,899

37" for $1,424

I love mine - best. tv. ever.

...btw... I'm fine, thanks ;-) How you doin'?

I am thinking Plasma. Projector is not possible. I believe it is about $2000.

$2000 for a display-quality 50+" plasma.. I think you're going to need to wait until the end of the year. I haven't seen decent plasmas that cheap just yet.

Seems to me a projector (not a tv, but the thing college professors use) is what your company needs. They don't need high tech for what it is they are using it for... plus they can just project it up on a grey/white wall at well over 50" and maintain good clarity. All well under $1,000.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking more inline with.

We just picked up a Dell 1800MP for $700. Natively, it's only XGA (1024×768) but for many things (like presentations and general text) it's perfectly fine. Not to mention it's 2100 lumens.

Plasma sucks. Major power consumption increase, shorter life span... why wouldn't you go LCD???

I have no idea which is better I just figured plasma because it sounds cool, really. That's why I asked. lol

Projectors are a no go because it's in a very light colored office that has a lot of windows.

P.S. would it be okay to post a topic about a non-php job under job hunt?

The higher the lumen rating, the better it works in brighter rooms. 2100 is fairly decent. I can't say how bright the room can get before it starts washing out, but you can't count projectors out just yet.

Sounds good. I'll keep looking at projectors. Originally, I wanted to purchase a projector because it is easier to move around.
