Don't know if any of you have already seen this or not, but Adobe just announced today 'Apollo' a cross-platform runtime that allows developers to utilize XHTML, javascript, flash, etc. for desktop apps as web applications.

Any of you think you might one day give it a try?

I've been using XULrunner which seems much the same... only it's been around for years and has Firefox / Thunderbird / Sunbird built on top of it already.
XULrunner has an annoying learning curve, a hefty base code size, and poor documentation... but it runs on win/mac/linux natively!
I wonder what apollo will have to edge it out?

I just read that Mozilla are planning a cross platform desktop. It looks like many groups are heading the same direction.

Yeah, it's kind of funny. Lots of people think that going back to thin-clients is a great idea. I'll agree that not having to worry about installing applications on whatever machine I'm on is nice, but the amount of data required to play quality video, audio or games on a thin-client requires mega-bandwidth. At some point we'll have enough bandwidth to do it, but we're not even close right now.

Touché!
And how many Terrabytes of RAM will I need to run that for more than 2 hours without rebooting?
They should fix gecko first. Don't get me wrong - I love Mozilla and Firefox, I deploy on XULrunner. But I also see the need for better performance and memory management before we go building skyscrapers on top of gecko.

Yet another attempt to deliver a multi-os ui/application platform.. (And yet another failure... Sit back, wait (a couple of years)... and see)

Certainly DHTML and Flash would neither be considered failures.

It looks like they have just added some offline and synchronization features to their existing tools ... surely a bunch of developers will make use of that.
