On the main topic: I've been waiting for the Clovertown processors to come out for a while now. But at $2000+ I don't think it's worth it. 4 cores should be enough.
On the other topic: Clock speed != computer speed

Yes it does. I didn't say that the clock speed directly affect your computer speed, but if you double your clock speed then, in general and with the appropriate conditions, your computer will perform 2 times more instructions per time unit (per sec/min/[whatever you want]).

Edit: Of course that because of other limitations, doubling just your clock speed won't double performance in most cases - that's probably what you meant.

Exactly. If I've got a 10 GHz proc with a 333MHz FSB, I'm buggered. 2X2.8GHz procs with a 1.2 GHz FSB is going to be much faster. You've also got your hard drive & ram speeds to consider. So ya - there are other factors to consider when determining a computer's computing power, than just the proc speed.

If only desktop processors were FPGA (field programmable gate array)...

I would drool. :)

Hi>>>>>
I think i should spend money for things better,
I don't think i need this huge performance for my apps.
Thanks
