You still love Google?

I've noticed a lot of articles and blog entries popping up about how Google is becoming too powerful and that they just may become evil and take over the world. What are your thoughts on Google? Are you still a fan?

Still like Google's services, and completely indifferent toward Google as an entity... never been one to give a <span style='color:blue' title='I&#39;m naughty, are you naughty?'>smurf</span> about corporate brands. Google is still a public company, working for its stockholders... not much more to it. Expect them to continue trying to make more money

I voted yes, because I use google search only, and it's great. I don't use any other of their services.

They're still a fine example of a company doing a whole lot right.

Google does have a lot of power but I doubt they would want to misuse that. It's all so open and transparent on the internet and Google is so much in the picture as the main player that as soon as they would do something bad, a huge negative response would follow. Each blogger on the planet would blog about it, each newspaper write about it, etc It's so easy to switch to another party that they couldn't allow that to happen.

I'd like to work for Google. I was approached by them (they just called me out of the blue) but they lost interest when they realised my three years at uni were spent studying chemistry, not comp. sci.

EDIT | just for the record, google's approach to finding work candidates is by talent scouting. They don't advertise jobs too much.

Same, Google would be my dream job.

Can i ask as to what they wanted you to do for them?

They had a few jobs within Europe (not UK) and also in the US (but the Visa applications were closed for a few months at the time). They wanted me to develop apps (in PHP/Perl) which were not client-facing. Apps for server management tasks internal to Google.

I am extroadinarily impressed with google's api system, there assortment of services, and gmail. Gmail is the best mail program I have ever used, by far. If i had a company, I'd use their corporate package for sure.

I love Google. I use a lot of their services and find their approach to application development very intuitive. If I could go work for them I'd do it in a heartbeat. I applied once, but did not hear back from them except to say they were not looking for someone with my skillset at the moment.

PS: I live about 20 away from their corporate headquarters.

PPS: I agree :google:

Google are unique in that their corporate image relies a lot on user goodwill and not simply market choice. So long as that is reflected in the practices they push I'll continue to support them. Over the last year they've had their public ups and downs, but their actions are pretty well aligned with their user base (e.g. privacy). It's a democratic method of marketing - a damn successful one too.

Love is too strong a word for me to vote "yes". I've always liked them, but with a healthy dose of skepticism, like any company. They provide some great tools at the right price. And they seem to conduct themselves honestly enough (overall). So I would vote "like".

 I originally had "Love is a strong word..." as a choice in the poll, but I clicked "Submit" before adding the option, so it didn't get added. :(

EDIT: fixed :)

Yeah, but now we are stuck with the answers we already gave :( That's okay, I still love them.
