Sorry if this post doesn't belong here.

I am trying to network 2 of our computers. One running vista home premium, the other running windowx xp home. At first, I could see the XP machine from the vista machine network place. Then I changed my computer name (and restarted), and now I can't see the XP machine.

What could be the problem? Network discovery is set to "On".

different workgroup names perhaps. Are you able to ping your computers from each other?

windows is a biatch about this kind of thing - try typing

Code: Select all

\\COMPUTERNAME\
into the run box and see if that connects - you may find it will magically appear after a while.

Try like kieran said. I did that once when networking an XP machine to a Win2K machine. Changed the name of the XP machine after connecting it to the network then had to connect to it a second time using the machine name.
