Forums slower?

Post by matthijs »

It seems like devnetwork is not as fast as it used to be. Or is it my patience that has changed? Or my neighbor leeching my network? 8O

Just interested. Does the forum has any statistics about this?

The internal server response time normally doesn't slow down unless one or more of the following is true
  1. many concurrent page requests
  2. network outage/maintenance
  3. server drives nearly capacity
  4. backup being performed
The response time to you may vary wildly however due to routing choices that may be made.

Ok, I'll talk to my neighbor then. Or go take a self-improvement-get-more-patience course

I haven't noticed a slow down recently. The forum has always lagged on occassion (usually my early morning time 6-8am UK time) but I haven't noticed a change recently :)

I was very slow (sometimes timing out) during yesterday for short periods - haven't noticed it today though.

it seems consistently slower to me too. Pages do ultimately end up loading, but they are taking a lot longer than they used to..... 8O

Every couple of hours or so, pages will start timing out for about five minutes until they finally start loading again. Of all of the sites I frequent, this probably ranks up there amongst the slowest.

It tends to start having timeout errors after 1am central time. Just can't connect to the server. I have to refresh the link a number of times before it finally connects.

The other weird thing with devnet is posting. When I click on submit it will sit there trying to connect for about 10-15 seconds and then finally get through. If I edit a post it usually goes through as soon as I click on submit but there are times when it will just sit there too.

I am starting to think it might be all of the mods made for text highlighting that might be causing the posting slowdowns.

Completely the opposite for me....takes around 5 secs to edit a post. Posting is pretty much instant.

Same here, edits are slow, but posting is ok.

I get slowdowns at 6-8am GMT but that's pretty much always happened for me.

The weird thing for me is that sometimes I can access the forum index, but cannot access the portal page. Very odd.

This has recently been on my mind, and is something we (admins/mods/me) have recently started discussing on how to resolve. Will keep you posted!
