Since I dislike LCDs strongly, I won't recommend any of them. However, 17'' is just too small these days. Definately get 19'' or a bigger one.

I would recommend either AOC or Apple.

If you are doing graphics work however, Apple is the far superior choice.

Samsung and LaCie are good brands as well. And if I'm right, Dell uses exact the same screens as Apple, only the surrounding casing is different (and the price..)

In a sense you are right, but wrong at the same time.

Although they use the same panels, there are slight differences. Better response times, more evenly lit, better colouring to name a few.

Actually, I probably expressed myself a bit wrong. It's not that I dislike them as such - I simply find them not acceptable for me personally. It all depends on your needs. I'm sure they're just fine for office (spreadsheets, MS Word, programming etc), but I use my PC for multimedia and playing games as well. And, since I'm very picky about what I see on my screen, when I do, I want them to look as good as possible.

I have recently built a new PC for myself and ordered a brand new 21'' Viewsonic P227FB, the last pro class CRT I could find. It's expensive, but movies, high-res photos and games look awesome on it (together with a 8800 GTX).

For me, LCDs have only cons:

1. They have low(er) quality color reproduction.
2. No way to change resolutions and have a good picture. I have some pretty old games that I like which run 800x600 or even 640x480 and they look great on my CRT.
3. Dead pixels. You never know when this will happen to you.
4. Response lag (you may argue it's minimal, but why have it, if you can have none (CRT)).
5. Certain viewing angles distort picture (keep in mind vertical angles as well).

Some say that LCDs are easier on your eyes. smurf. I run my CRT @100Hz and there's no way your eye can notice the flickering and I get no eye strain at all.

If you're not too picky about the picture quality - LCDs are certainly fine.

just go to tigerdirect and find a 19" with good reviews, then buy one or more wherever it's cheapest / most convenient.
