Just bought some new toys

Post by alex.barylski »

22" LG - at least I think it's 22" it's bigger than anything I've EVER had so I'm quite blown away having only had a 17" and my 15" laptop for, well ever...

Bought a table thingy too...writing will take some getting used to...I might return it as it's way to sensitive :P

I hold my pen funny and never learned how to write properly...hahaha...so that won't help any :)

Any cool toys you've all bought lately which you find help your eBusiness day to day operations? The two monitor thing...WOW that'll speed up dev almost 2 times I figure :)

Very cool...I need to dim the monitor though as the image is almost tooo sharp :)

I just bought a Canon 30D and some sweet lenses - they're still in transit though... I can hardly wait!

I've had my eye on a pair of Dell 30" mon(i|s)ters, I saw them on sale a while ago for about 1K CDN each. Alas, I think it'll be while :-)

I'll be buying a new mac (pro), or three, in short order here. I'm hoping I can justify dual 30" beasts, but I'll be happy with one for a while. Already allocating a lot of funds for new software and such, so I may have to skimp on several "extras." :|

Oh well, there's always Christmas. :)

Yea I've been rolling with a 28" widescreen for quite some time now, and I have to say I will never go back to anything less.

As for you feyd, dual 30", you must be mad

Dual 30"? I would kill for a single 30" :)

I'm looking at buying a 24" now, maybe apple cinema display. The comparable Dells used to be a lot cheaper, but last I saw not anymore.

dell is having a sale on them as we speak (in Canada):
$699 http://accessories.dell.com/sna/product ... u=320-4335

Even the Apple refurb is $899 CDN I believe, and it's a 23"

You can have a new 30" 3007WFP-HC from ebay for $1200 USD, btw

That's the weird thing about Dell. Their models. Now you pointed me out to this model, the Ultrasharp 2407FPW 24.0-inch for $699.

But if I look on the european site, I only find the 2407WFP 24.0-inch for 975 euro. That's like 1457.24 canadian dollar, or 1321.9 american dollar.

I mean, is that the same monitor?

The Apple cinema display 23" is 899,00 euro, or 1218.86 US dollar. For the 30" 1.799 euro (or 2439 USD).

So, a few conclusions:
a) there's something different in the Dell models
b) the Apples are cheaper in europe.
c) I might as well buy a cheap ticket, fly to the states and buy one there (dell/apple). costs me the same.

Note: Most European prices closely match USD prices on a 1:1 basis for technology (check the Playstation 3 prices worldwide for Europe, UK and US). That is, Europeans pay the same (sometime more) unit amount in their currency which of course far exceeds the actual exchange rate to USD so we actually pay far more in reality. I've also seen the same thing with British sterling on products which is a lot worse... The same happens online, and usually even within Europe itself (something Apple has really taken a battering over since you can only access an iTunes store for whichever country your credit card was issued in).

On topic... I read somewhere that Dell's LCD quality suffered in a few areas. Likely a minor concern for many users, but I think the problem was input lag which would quickly drive us sharp-shooting gamers up the wall.

the response time on the older panels was 11-14ms (ok, not great) while the newer Dell panels (the -HC models) are 6ms I think. And all those inputs (DVI, VGA, RCA, Composite, and s-video) would make any gamer happy!

Most of us probably have 17"/19" ... Question is I guess for me is do I want a weekend away at a LARP event this year and get some plate armour for it or do I want another monitor... Guess Larp wins as I need to actally get out sometimes away from a computer. (LARP = Live Action Role Playing where you hit each other with foam weapons  Example)

CoderGoblin, I really wanted that 24" monitor, but now you make me rethink. That LARP looks cool :D
