Ever seen a UFO?

I'm one of those people that doesn't believe anything until I see it. I have seen all the shows on PBS, History and the Discovery channels on UFO's and the place in Nevada and all that. I always thought it was silly that these airline pilots that claim to have seen UFO's are scared to come forward because they think that they will lost credibility.

Well... now I know how they feel.

I was driving on a highway from St. Louis, MO to Springfield MO last Thursday night (5-31/2007) Google Map. About 20-30 minutes past the Six Flags theme park I saw an object in the sky. I'm not sure it was a UFO, I'll just tell you what I do know. I swear I'm not making this smurf up.

So I'm just driving along with the car on cruise control traveling about 74MPH. It's dark with a clear sky and full moon. The moon is up and to my left in front of me. I notice a bright light in the same direction and glancing over I realize that it is the moons reflection off the top of a metallic object. I then notice that this object has a strobe light on the bottom of it and I think it's a plane. Trying to then determine what type of plane would reflect the moon off the top of it, I look closer instead of just glancing away.

Looking closer I realize that it looks somewhat circular, like a thick disk, and there are evenly spaced lights all around its widest point. I look at this thing for a good minute trying to identify it. I figure it's not a plane, because whatever this thing was, it didn't have wings and was either hovering or moving very slowly. It's not a helicopter because it had no rotors on the top. I then start considering what else it could possible be. I think maybe it's a blimp, a microwave dish on a tower, a water tower, a balloon etc. I was able to rule all of these things out. Because it was a full moon, I knew damn well there was nothing under this thing.

I probably looked at it trying to figure out what it was for a good 3 to 5 minutes before I finally drove past it and it was behind me. I thought about this in my head for a while, thinking to myself was that a spaceship? That could not have been a spaceship! What the hell was it? I then called a few people and told them about it, they said that was just weird.

Continuing to drive at the same speed, in the same direction, I see the damn thing in front of me again. This time it is closer but I still can only see the same thing. Moonlight reflecting off the top, a ring of lights around the circumference, and a strobe light at the bottom. As I'm driving I end up beside it, but then it travels beside me, going the same speed as my car for a minute or two. I'm trying to look left out my window and keep my car on the road at the same time. Then it slows down or stops and I begin to pass it.

At no point was I freaked out, and I seriously tried to figure out what the hell this thing was, but at this point, I'm pretty sure it wasn't anything explainable. Traveling the opposite direction on the same highway a few days later I kept a close eye out for anything that could explain it, like a water tower or something, but I didn't see anything out of the ordinary.

Water towers don't move, planes don't hover, and there are no helicopters without rotors on top. I dunno what I saw.

I myself have never seen anything out of the ordinary in the skies. I am the kind of guy too that looks for that sort of stuff too. But unfortunately, I haven't seen anything. There are all kinds of people out there that build all kinds of flying crap, unmanned craft, etc... but what you saw definitely is intriguing. I do remember one day I was driving mid-day in sunny skies and I saw something that flashed in the sky, bright enough to catch my attention and get me thinking about what possibly could have caused it. But a flash isn't really anything ponder about, your case is however.

Definitely a cool story. Are you a E.T. believer now? ;)

seen what looked a meteor come in before and break into 3, it was sort of burning red and split up as it came down towards the horizon, that was quite cool to watch. And we had a northern lights type meteor shower a few years back which made the sky go crazy that was goodm kind of green and blue affair with lots of little shooting stars going over. Never seen a UFO tho :)

I've been excited that I thought there was something like a UFO behind the clouds before. My whole family were outside looking and trying to fathom it out. It was a dark, cloudy night but there was a ring of bright (white) lights all spinning and shining from what appeared to be behind the clouds. This wasn't small neither... it was huge and right over our town. No noise, not scary, just very weird.

After a few minutes it there was a bit of damp misty haze in the air at ground level and we realised that it was from something on the ground somewhere in the distance shining up into the sky (like the batman logo) :P Does it still count?

Crazy stuff that's all I can say. I wish I could have got a better view. My camera can record video, I wish I would have remembered that at the time. I thought about taking a picture, but I knew it wouldn't turn out very well. Any shutter speed long enough to get a good exposure would have been too blurry, but thinking back, I should have recorded it on video.

Never, ever take a picture of aliens. They can sense their photo being taken, and that usually results in some sort of bodily probing. I learned this from an astronaut.

Ok ... knowing that onion2k wants to be probed by aliens is tooooo muuch infomation! 8O

Astions ... Missouri huh ... you are probably the hundredth so far this year of every shape and size. Except the last one near Rolla was triangular ... darn!

There are a bunch of possibilities. Whiteman Air Force Base is about 100 miles NW of where you were. Plus Lambert-St. Louis and a couple other airports are just a little farther. Also remember that roads are not straight. Usually when thing appear to "catch up" and "drop behind" it is because you are focused on an object in the distance and the road is curving changing your angle of view.

PS - I believe that are now referred to as UAPs by those into such things.

I just wanted to let people know what I saw and let them form their own conclusions. I considered the winding road possibility while I was still looking at it and ruled that out. There is no doubt in my mind that I passed this thing twice. I'm aware of some of the things that go on at government bases. If I started talking about what they have most of you would think I've lost my mind and I'd probably end up with some people knocking on my door. I'm fairly certain that if what I saw did not come from that military base, we had some visitors from a long way away.

Question: If you were met by an alien spacecraft, and were asked to come aboard for a ride (seemingly nice aliens)... would you hop on board or scamper away in fear?

I ask this question in all seriousness.

Certainly scamper. Me and Earth have grown attached.

Maybe you didn't pass it twice - there could have been two of them! ;)

They must be really polite aliens to display warning lights for passing aircraft (at the very least that's a good sign). I'm not up on UFO theory, but the lighting, shape and apparently sedate movement suggests a blimp or low-altitude balloon. Weather balloons in particular often have irregular shapes like a squat fat oval (maybe your disk) since I think that keeps the whole platform slightly more stable for equipment.

I'm just guessing here. Aliens could be more likely for all I know!

As for what I'd do if they turned up. Well, if they are asking and haven't abducted me already I'd have to assume they're not totally evil. Before I made a choice I'd have to make sure I'd be able to return when I wanted to ;).

Thats a risk you'd have to take, I don't think you can really guarantee your safe return..

Reminds me of that Simpsons episode..
