Google don't have an API to their search engine that you can query from a server any more. They've stopped issuing keys to their SOAP API, and the AJAX API specifically states you have to use the JavaScript they provide in order to access it. How much does that suck?

Nor are MSFT or Yahoo, but their search engines both have APIs.

Dude, its google, and they can do "whatever they want".
They make the rules and we must just abide like the obedient little sheep that we are.
And yes, it totally sucks that they dont issue the keys to the API anymore.
ps. If I'm not mistakin they have stopped issueing keys for a while now.

Yes, ages ago, but I only discovered this when I needed to sign up for one today.

Google's terms of service specifically forbid automating searches through their HTML interface. Obviously it's possible but the idea of getting on Google's bad side gives me the fear.

"Do no evil" != "Do Good"
I trust google more than most other corporate entities, but that's not saying much.
