Hehe, I've never purchased an iPod. Too expensive. I've had 3 MP3 players stolen, and the latest one that I still have stopped working after I filled it's hard drive. RCA won't take it back until I find the receipt.jayshields wrote:It's Apple. They don't have to compete price-wise with anything else on the market. They put whatever price they want on anything they produce and it always sells millions. I still don't know why people (Windows users in particular) buy iPods instead of Creative mp3 players.astions wrote:I don't see the value in the price they are asking. My phone with numeric buttons works fine for calling people.
How many of you are going to get an iPhone?

The most advanced thing about my phone is the color screen
It sends sms messages and does phone calls.... that it. Seriously. No wap, no video, no camera, no mms. I specifically got this phone because I never use all the "gimmick" features on the fancy phones. I've been there, had a motorola 3G phone with wap, videos, mp3 and all the other stuff... battery used to need charging once a day and I never even used it for anything other than SMS and calls. My current phone can for 4 days or so without being charged and it weighs barely anything... I'm happy
So that would be a no for me. As much as it looks cool, my phone is just that - a phone

Mine has a camera, and I used to use until I got a camcorder. It's more portable though.d11wtq wrote:The most advanced thing about my phone is the color screenIt sends sms messages and does phone calls.... that it. Seriously. What really sells me is the google maps. I've seen so many days when I'm out and about looking for a restaurant of directions, and I always say to someone I'm with at the time: "Wouldn't it be great to have an iPhone right now!", frustratingly.
All the other features are BIG pluses. I don't see how any other cell would have more features or just plain out better in any way?

Nokia's N95 has GPS and mapping apps on it. And I think Google Maps works on it too.JellyFish wrote:What really sells me is the google maps. You can also do google maps on the blackberry 8800 or even the curve(with an optional gps unit).
I thought about getting an iPhone, but, at least to me, it's not worth the price tag. Besides the
price tag, I HATE touch screen interfaces. I'm sure they're much better now than they used to be,
but regardless I just want regular buttons on my phone.
So I got a curve and absolutely love it. It's small(for a qwerty smart phone), and light, and is generally pretty awesome.

Sweet! Can you call the phone numbers you get off google maps or GPS mapping apps?onion2k wrote:Nokia's N95 has GPS and mapping apps on it. There are so many features I like about iPhone other then the google maps aswell. Safari is another good one!
I hate [s]Cingular[/s] AT&T too much to even consider it. Make up your damn mind on what you want people to call you! I remember when I used to work for Cingular and they acquired AT&T they MADE every AT&T customer "switch" to Cingular, just to switch back to AT&T 2 years later.
I hate all cellular service providers (at least in the USA) they are all scum-bags. They overcharge for the service they provide. Then if you want ANYTHING extra they charge for that. If you go over on ANYTHING, they charge you for that too. Text messages should be freaking free. How much does a text message really cost them? Not a whole lot. Not only that, but in order to get any kind of a deal AT ALL you have to sign a contract and sell your soul for a year or two. The phones are also about a million dollars, and in my personal experience, the only ones that are worth a damn are the cheapest ones you can buy. I bought a $250 phone last time and it broke 2 times within the warranty period and 2 more times after that. Luckily I worked for the company and was able to get a new one when it went out of warranty.
EDIT: also, it's kind of BS that the phone warranty lasts one year when they sell most people a two year contract... pretty damn scummy.

Yup. When I get the money and can make the switch, I'm there. Here's why its miles beyond *any* other smart phone on the market:
1. *FULL* browser. Not Opera Mini (which changes the code presented to the browser - making development for it a challenge), not a WAP browser, not a "HTML3, but some of 4 and even a couple css bits" browser, but a full browser.
2. Rotate screen awareness - flip the screen up and down, and you get the newspaper view. Sideways? You get the landscape view.
3. Web 2.0 apps can access phone features. Sexy. Lets me do what I want!
4. I don't own an mp3 player. It comes with one of the best mp3 players on the market.
5. Apple quality software and interface.
6. Google apps, maps, and more all *tested* and working well on it.
7. Video voicemail.
8. Uses Wifi when available or wireless when not for 'net functions. I'm around a wifi connection roughly 80% of my day, so almost no cost for my browsing.
9. Plays movies, shows, music, youtube, and more.
10. The interface for choosing the media you want to access is unbeatable. Absolutely gorgeous.
11. Bluetooth, USB, and wifi syncing to my computer.
12. One of the highest resolution screens on the smartphone market today. I like to *see* what I am accessing.

Not gonna happen anytime soon, I bet.Gente wrote:I want to try it but I have no idea when it will become available in Ukraine...
Heh... we use prepaid time here... no contracts to sign, no bills, no debts. If you want to switch a provider, you just go out and buy a new SIM card (~3-7$). Of course it comes with a new phone number, so you wouldn't do that frequent, but you can do that if you really want.NSG wrote: Not only that, but in order to get any kind of a deal AT ALL you have to sign a contract and sell your soul for a year or two.

I just though about how much I paid from my crappy phone ($180), and the price tag doesn't seem as bad anymore. :-p
It's still AT&T/Cingular though. I'm with Sprint.. 'cause it's cheap. ^_^
