Only reason I'm so defensive is because I'm almost positive he's hating on it just because it's Microsoft. Sick and tired of that attitude. I didn't hate on linux just because it wasn't Windows. I bit the bullet and started learning how to do talk to my box through SSH and even bought a laptop that I carry with me that's running Ubuntu (bout as hard core as I'll go :) ) My point is, I'm sick of people hating something just because it's from Microsoft. That's stupid. Wait, take that back.. That leaves more customers for me... Scratch that, he can hate ASP if he wants too :-D

I'm not telling him he can't have that attitude ( assuming my assumption was right ) ,just saying he shouldn't. At the end of a long day it doesn't matter at all. Oh, btw, still working on the code ( trying to create user registration and login using as little code from me as possible to demonstrate a point. Note: I've only started learning about ASP a day ago so be patient )

Yes. Not everyone likes Microsoft. Not everyone like Big corporations at all, for that matter. Microsoft doesn't exactly stand for daisies and roses you know. ;)

The reason I don't use ASP isn't because I don't like Microsoft, but that Microsoft basically controls it. PHP is controlled by... us.

I thought the point you were proving was the speed of the development process....?

I'm of the breed I don't care what they stand for. Does it help me get my job done at an acceptable standard and faster? If so, I'm interested. For me, I believe ASP might do that. I haven't made a final decision yet, and likely won't for several months.

on the code: for my sanity going to keep reading this blasted book until I get a bit farther. At the moment I can only do stuff that isn't even remotely impressive. I'll be back later :-D

I think a lot of people dislike Microsoft because it is fashionable to do so. For a long time if someone asked me in a pub whether I like Microsoft I would say no knowing that I'm more likely to establish a rapport with that person because of it. Now if someone asked me that I'd say "Well they are a big successful company and they do what big successful companies do, some of their products are good, other's aren't. I'm involved with the open-source software community."

:P

Besides, Microsoft doesn't care. They're winning. No matter how many people "hate on them," they're still winning.

They are fighting an uphill battle. They will ride the train as long as they can though.

Speed of development only comes in if you're familiar with the IDE and the language, I am neither of those at the moment. Though, i'm getting there. Give me a few months.

Precisely, and it's that type of conformity in your first sentence that strikes a chord in me that makes me want to yell "Be an individual!" Oh well, can't win em all :-D

As a part of a forum, you're supposed to be able to be convinced to stray from extremities. I understand that you want to convince other's from theirs, but you are certainly at the other extremity. It's not really something to get worked up about.

Heh. It's nothing to do with PHP or ASP with me to be more precise. That type of attitude regarding anything frustrates me as a person. A personal fault of mine. I'll try not to appear so extremist :-D As anyone on here that knows me even remotely I love PHP :-D Got a job doing it for a living recently, just trying out this whole .NET thing and trying to figure out why the hype is about. I'm starting to see some of the reasoning behind it but my journey's just started.
