How to destroy data on failed hard disk

How much did the hard drive cost? If that is less than the value you place on the data, pay that much for the new drive and keep the old one. If not, pay for cleaning tools. There are services out there (my company uses them all the time when decomissioning or retiring work stations, servers, etc) that can do it for you also. But seriously, if all you are talking about is a few hundred dollars, then certainly the value of your data exceeds that amount.

Although drilling holes and using grinders does sound like fun. Until your catch your pants on fire.
