I have this question for you guys that I really don't know the answer to.
Does constantly switching back and forth between different screen resolutions hurt your monitor or the computer in anyway? Does it stress the monitor? I've never heard that it does or doesn't, but because it flickers and jumps around on screen when I switch resolutions... it always seems like it is stressing something out.
Is this true? Or am I free to switch my screen resolution as many times in a day as I like?

I'd do it a few more thousand times in a row to be sure. :-p

If your monitor has relays, (you hear clicking when you change resolution) over time it might wear those out. I don't think it would harm the picture tube in any way though.

Just to be clear on what monitor I am using... it is the
Apple 30" Cinema Display
..hence, I want to make sure changing the screen res. constantly doesn't ruin the very item that put me back in debt

I can't see any harm in changing screen resolutions frequently on a flat panel.

As long as you're not forcing screen resolutions or refresh rates that your monitor cannot handle.. then I'd say you're all right.

Glad to know switching the screen resolution back and forth doesn't harm anything.
Any of you guys use a 30" display? I'm still getting used to websites at 2560x1600.

I use a 27" and a 30", although I don't dare go over 1360x720

What's the reason for that?

Switching resolutions requires a power cycle (switch the screen off and then on again). Power cycling any electrical stuff a lot is not good for it. My monitor is definitely on the way out and I need a new one because I had power saving set to turn it off after 10 minutes ... consequently I'd end up switching it off and on again many times a day. Now it's broken. But, that said, it has lasted 4 years so I can't complain.
