want to buy a domain name... suggestions/recommendations?

Hi Guys,

I am looking to buy a domain name [Budget: under 10 bucks/year], However I have couple of criteria:

1. I need whois privacy
2. must not have any strings attached [i.e., $8 only if you buy hosting too etc. etc.]
3. Total control over the domain [i.e., over Nameservers etc.]

I already have a massive hosting package... but they offer domains at a very high rate [$30 per year  ]

I have used godaddy for 5 of my domains... but they don't include whois privacy (for free) with a purchase of a dot com :?

Any suggestions/recommendations for site that I can use to purchase a domain?

Thanks Guys,

-Matt

1and1 has .com for $5.99/year and has whois privacy and I don't believe there are any strings attached.

I've never registered a domain with them (or anyone for that matter), but it supposed to be good.

I register all of my domains with them. Free privacy, good control panel, great support, no strings attached!
It truly is $5.99 (or $5.95.. i forget) per domain, per year.
That is for domain only, no hosting included.

Hi yankees26 & scottayy!

Thanks for the link.... just one question:
I was looking through their FAQs, and didn't find an answer to this question:

Will I be able to change the Nameservers to my hosting provider?
[OR is this too obvious of a question?]

How are you guys handling this? are you hosted at the same place? or doing what I am trying to do? [i.e., domain at one place, hosting at another]

Thanks for the help!

Best,
-Matt

I use 1and1 too, they give you loads of DNS control (so, yes you can change the nameservers).
