Where can I buy a retail version of XP Pro 64-Bit?
I need to purchase a 64-bit edition of Windows XP before it becomes unavailable as I will be using XP for years to come and expect to surpass the memory limitations of the 32-bit edition I have now. Linux and Vista are not viable options for me and I'm not interesting in debating Linux versus Windows. I'd like to buy it before MS kills off selling XP altogether though I only am seeing OEM-only copies available and don't feel like trying my luck with that. I obviously don't want to buy a whole computer just for the OS. Suggestions as to where to find a retail copy of Windows XP Pro 64-bit?

Is this legit for a home built computer? I can't find retail...

I trust Newegg but MS doesn't have any clear explanations between their retail and OEM versions. I clearly understand OEM versus retail as far as hardware goes though.

There is really no difference between the OEM and Retail version of any Windows XP product except for one small inf file that denotes OEM or Retail. Other than that the files are the same.JAB Creations wrote:I only am seeing OEM-only copies available and don't feel like trying my luck with that.
Even the Windows XP Upgrade Only discs are Full version but have one inf file that disables full install. So avoiding the OEM versions isn't going to give you anything better or more legit. It only gives more money to MS and takes it out of your pocket.
Vista does the same thing.
