Hey guys,
does anyone know of a text file/database freely available that contains the longitude and latitude coordinates of virtually any location (city, town etc) in the world?
Thanks.

The Google API may have a lot of information available but still is sketchy in some areas and not as a text file/database directly downloadable as far as I know. I know a year ago they didn't have much on poland for instance. Another possible location is
geonames.
You say freely available... To quote thread
Canadian Postal Code Database...

Thanks.
GeoNames looks like a winner, it is available to use, and they update it frequently which I can then update my own.

DAFIF might be of interest. I do not believe it is publically available anymore however. You could probably get away with an older database though.
