My inside sources tell me Zend are releasing Eclipse PDT (PHP Development Tools) on schedule later today. If there are any Eclipse users in the audience there's going to finally be a stable version to kick around with. I think I have a nightly from some time ago so should be fun updating it and seeing how it stacks up to the pricey Zend Studio.

Anyone been using it more recently? Find it good/bad/fit only for the crapper? ;) I really love Eclipse for my editing needs so I'm shoe fits really well. The

The page isn't updated for the new release yet - so anyone interested will have to wait for US Pacific Time to swing around. A little quote from the, erm, draft press release I'm privy to:
Eclipse Announces New Tools for PHP Developers

PDT 1.0 release – the first Eclipse project targeting PHP -- is (Ed: in a few hours PST) available for download

OTTAWA – September 18, 2007 -- The Eclipse Foundation today announced the availability of the 1.0 release of the Eclipse PHP Development Tools (PDT) project. Eclipse PDT is a set of tools and frameworks that enhance the productivity of developers using PHP, a popular, general-purpose dynamic language that is especially suited for development of web applications and web services. This is the first Eclipse project that targets the large PHP developer community.

Look forward to it, although intrigued about any changes. I have run into no problems with the previous version although I probably don't use it to its full potential. Another one whose "shoes fits really well".

I am downloading now. I will test it as I have time.

On a side note I liked Eclipse with the PHPEclipse plugin. I am wondering how this is going to be different.

Why is it 100+ MB?

Because Eclipse is that large.

They seem similar. I like the PHPEclipse library function hover better than the PDT one (more info but no prototype), but most features are the same.

Don't forget about the ESFTP plugin for Eclipse as well ... very handy.
