Anyone who has previously worked with the manual probably knows how woefully inadequate and difficult to do the object-oriented documentation is. Well, work has begun on a new, revamped OO Docbook scheme to fix all these problems. You can read Hannes Magnusson's post here, and poke around the changes on docs.php.net. Especially of note are Reflection and XMLReader.
There are plenty of opportunities for writers, to quote Hannes:
- Possibility to add "basic usage of this extension" pages (PDO/SCA/SDO....)
- Possibility to add FAQ/tutorials for each extension
- Possibility to add articles for each extension
- Possibility to cut long and complex documents (header(), mail()...) into simple manual pages linking to "further examples and howtos" within the extension.
If you're interested, pop on over at the php.doc mailing list/newsgroup and give a shout!
Great developments over at the PHP documentation
