New technologies that help businesses

Post by superdezign »

So I have a CIS class and they wants us to do a mini-research project on a new technology that can help businesses. The only thing is that when I try to think of some... I simply draw a blank. ;_;

The only technologies I really seem to keep up with are those in web development and small things that would benefit e-commerce and such, but not exactly all businesses. When it comes down to it, I might be able to just use something like that, but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on interesting new technologies that I could research.

Does it have to be tangible technologies or different kind of software that drive business?

Anything. I wanted to do streaming Flash video and it's ties with "free" advertising, but then someone in the class already took YouTube. ;_;

OpenID (Could be useful as a trust authorised SSO for businesses)
SOA (Service Oriented Architecture - big topic - reusable macro level services, exposing legacy systems as services)
Web Services (in general - exposing a public API from payment gateways or retail sites)

A few broad ones...

CRM - Customer Relationship Management
KBS - Knowledgebase Systems/Expert Systems
ERP - Enterprise Resource Planning
CMS - Content Managment Systems
PIM - Personal Information Managment (calandering, etc)

There are countless other software systems which solve business problems daily. I'm not sure I understand what it is your after though.

API's
Set Search Time - A google chrome extension. When you search only results from the past year (or set time period) are displayed. Helps tremendously when using new technologies to avoid outdated results.
