Desktop Environment

Ok, I am looking for a desktop environment to play around with and of course I get a bunch of recommendations to BlackBox but apparently development has been discontinued. I found the download link at sourceforge: http://sourceforge.net/projects/bb4win/ but I'm afraid it's not used anymore.
So I think that going with bblean http://bb4win.sourceforge.net/bblean/ or xoblite http://xoblite.net/ would be better but I don't know what the range of themes etc. are available for these two "branches". Ok thanks very much and I hope people have consistent opinions about which one to use. :D

I use flyakiteOSX to reduce the in-your-face-ness of XP's default theme, but it's not a shell replacement.

If you want more control, etc... give Ubuntu a try. It kicks major but AND its got cool things like Compiz. You're just cheating yourself with stuff like BlackBox.

I am pretty sure that Kieran understood that.

Honestly ... you are asking for something that in the end is really just up to your personal tastes. Install a few and try them out. It will become clear pretty quickly.

On Linux, Enlightenment is a very nice DE. Still beta, but I've not seen anything unstable about it yet.

Aston on WinXp was ok, but has a price last time I saw. http://www.astonshell.com/
