I have been tempted before and purchased software in the past, but was horribly disappointed once I looked into the code and used the software and discovered a zillions bugs.
I know we all have the urge to build it ourselves, but sometimes the idea of saving some time really appeals to us and we seek third party options.
Have you purchased software in the past (PHP based)? If so what was it that made you choose that company and it's wares???
- Price
- Support
- Documentation
- Ease of installation
- Graphics Design
- High Standards (MVC, Unit Testing, W3C compliance)
I would ike to hear those kind of answers and maybe even the product itself. But the poll question is - Have you ever purchased PHP based software?

Nope, I've always written my own code.

I don't buy it but I do sell it
The only thing I have ever bought PHP related is the ioncube encoder.

I've purchased a chat application, but it was Flash. I didn't care if it was flash or PHP, mind you, I chose it based on its built-in compatibility with phpBB and Wikimedia. I could have written it myself in PHP/JS, but it was due on a deadline and I figured the $5 was well worth it

And it was.
Most things have a good, open source equivalent in PHP. I've found that other things are often either worth building from scratch or not a perfect solution to your problem.

I will never buy software but my company does keep an up-to-date vbulletin license and a license for vbseo (which I think is actually snakeoil but my boss certainly does not)

If I remember correctly at least once or twice. Mint from Shauninman for a few domains. And some intranet-/filemanagement package, but the only thing I remember is the horrible code. We never used it .. luckily not only the code was cheap, the price as well

I considered paying for PHP-based ecommerce / shopping cart software but couldn't find anything that looked like it was worth any money. That's how DevNetStore started, and probably why
Magento Commerce is seeing so much press.
