There is flash.
This site would look nice if they made some small alterations to the dimensions, it should be based on a grid with a visual rhythm including the type, then it could look really nice.
I think the main concern behind this is usability. As a user of the interweb I don't really care how fancy-pants your graphics are I just want to get the information I'm looking for so I can get on with my job/play a game/do something worthwhile. If you do a really impressive job and you've got some kind of web journey thing going I'll probably be impressed and I may even enjoy it, unless I'm in a hurry, then it'll <span style='color:blue' title='I'm naughty, are you naughty?'>smurf</span> me off.
Back to usability/accessibility:
What is stylizing the scrollbars really achieving? Yeah it looks kinda interesting but I had to think about what they actually were, and when I went to use them I wasn't sure what to expect. "How's this scrollbar going to feel when I use it?" I thought to myself. The arrow keys no longer work, the scroll wheel is a bit weird, clicking the scroll wheel and mousing up and down doesn't work, incidentally I must be the only person who scrolls like this because that doesn't work in Google Reader either.
Why's this site not filling my screen? I didn't by a big screen so you could stick something in the middle of it and leave the rest blank.
I'm sure I could go on.
