windows 7 on 2010

Post by yacahuma »

Apparently the new windows is schedule for 2010. It will be based on a much smaller kernel. It smells like MS will not wait a day to have the new version ready as early as possible after the Vista fiasco.

Also if you are a big company with 1000 pcs. Why will you upgrade to Vista now and get a probably better version in 2 years or less??

I saw an interview with Balmer at cnet and the guy did not look happy

Any thoughts

Two words: site license.

The next major release is almost always around the corner, just like hardware. You're going to have to bite the bullet at some point, and they know it.

Also bear in mind a lot of large companies will not get a new major version of software as a X.0 release. They will wait for others to find problems and the problems to be solved  before investing in it.

vista first timer

Post by yacahuma »

I am using vista for the first time. I got a great deal(i think) from tigerdirect in a gateway mt6460, dual core athlon 64 with 1.5GB and dual layer dvdrw, 4-1 media card reader, 80gb, and vista home premium for $400.00

I am replacing a perfectly fine sony laptop celeron 1.6 with 512mb.

The only reason I bought the machine it that it seems extremely cheap. The machine looks great but it feels slower
than my sony. I even disable the transparency and the animation. But everything seems to take longer. longer to open forlders, longer to install office, office 2003 almost hangs. Everytime I selected something in the custom install the machine took forever. I even got some "not responding" messages and this was even before the installation started. I remove mcafee and install the free avast, thinking mcafee was taking a lot of resources.

I just cant understand. I think I will play with it for a bit and then change back to XP Professional. IMHO this is the worst version after windows me.

I now what you are saying about site license but if I were in charge of making a decision about moving my company to vista, I will just say No.

If I were in charge of the company IT, we wouldn't be running Windows, period. :)

All the servers would be some flavor of Linux/Unix and all work machines would likely be Macs or Linux/Unix boxes.

feyd++. *nix makes sense for business and it runs so smoothly that it is hard to find problems with the platform.

Plus Macs are just great pieces of iCandy with their super clean UI.

If you need to run Windows, XP FTW. Vista is arguably the worst OS out of Redmond ever.

I'm hearing rumors that MS might drop the domestic market, at least for "Windows Seven" like they did for NT and 2k(3).
