Testing software

Post by alex.barylski »

Have any of you actually been hired *by contract* not assigned temporarily as in-house application tester???

I hope to be releasing an application in a couple months...at which point I would like someone with development experience to run over the application and record errors/issues found. I don't feel this is something which a regular user could do successfully as the steps to reproduce need to be exacting and based on my experience in working with the GP (general public) and testing...most people are horrible at explaining bugs period, nevermind re-producing...

So I ask...would you consider something like this? Hire for the day...and basically just hit the application with everything you have for half a day or 8 hours or whatever???

Should I even try and find a developer to test or should I just submit the application to DN and other forums and hope that pure volume of 5 minute testers will reveal most bugs in the alpha stage of testing?

I have never been hired to test but it does represent a significant portion of my duties. I have spent upward of 40 hours straight in testing applications. And folks that I work with have done the same for me.
