seo development tips & tricks

Post by jmut »

Hi, kind of hard to find relative topic using search... I am sure this must have been discussed at some point.
Question is what are good tips & tricks when it comes to search engine optimization etc...to make you're site search engine friendly.
A few I know about:
- pretty urls
- good keywords, title specific for each category etc
- standard compliant
- good & new content -> I specifically ask about e-commerce site so content is not that much of a regular change...
- let googe know about it at http://www.google.com/addurl/

What others you'll suggest... also usually how much time would take to notice site and start worrying you're not doing something right...or you see customers comming in. All projects I've done are pretty much close corporate ones, and this topic has never been of interest till now. Any good articles or the like would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Here? I haven't seen any extensive discussions. There are entire websites dedicated to SEO techniques, though. Just Google it.

If your website is a community, it'll likely grow exponentially if the people there like it. However, if it's not very interactive and doesn't give people reason to come back, you can't expect too much too fast.

- less markup, more content
- don't use deprecated tags
- page URLs ARE important for keywords
- proper use of cascading header tags (i really think google loves this.. could just be me)
- emphasizing words (strong, big, em, etc)
- don't try to trick the search engines, you'll only get penalized
Set Search Time - A google chrome extension. When you search only results from the past year (or set time period) are displayed. Helps tremendously when using new technologies to avoid outdated results.
