I loathe networking

The past 4 or 5 times I've set up a home network (moving sucks), I've used a linksys router. Every, single, time... It's been a major headache. I once spent literally 12 hours connecting 3 computers (XP + win 98 + win 95 = FAILURE). Today, I gave up on linksys and bought a d-link router. It took less than 10 minutes to set up the entire network. That was awesome.

D-Link makes me happy. <3

You must have had a bad apple, I refuse to buy anything other than linksys. If you haven't updated the firmware that would be worth a shot.

The only stable router I've ever had has been the WRT54GL with custom firmware. It's just awesome.

Just make sure it's the WRT54GL - no other variation is nearly as good.

Check out http://wrtrouters.com for firmware, I use Thibor's HyperWRT and LOVE IT.

Several other people have told me that too... yet I've bought more than one linksys router. Maybe I'm just cursed. >.>

I think networking in general it one big fat pile of fetid, pus-filled, ass wiping, fish snogging, bitch slapping, vomit inducing, head wank.

They'll be a test next week.

I can't believe you said all that without a single smurf!

Well played, sir.

I'm with ~astions. I deal with lots of different router types each September & January and I cringe when I see anything other than a linksys.

Why those months? Do you have like, huge networking parties in September and January?

Because that'd be awesome. :D

You don't celebrate Router Day in the U.S.? 8O

I thought the January one WAS the U.S. holiday. Your holidays are always a little late.

I'm with the others, linksys is awesome.
I think your problem is you're trying to network 3 different versions of windows. That thought alone makes ME cringe.

I have a linksys wireless in the basement...in my room I have a D-Link range booster so i can connect to the net from my desktop, server and laptop...

The range booter works awesome, as I can now access the interet from outside in the trailer in the summer or when sitting in the garage. Couldn't do that before with the booster - wireless signal was to weak.

In anycase, both D-LInk and Linksys play nice so far, in the household. :)
