Anyone got a digital photo frame?

Does anyone here have a digital photo frame? I have a question about them .. do they work like any mass storage device connected to your PC?

The reason I ask is that I rather fancy using one as a 'live' monitor for stats on various websites ... if I can delete and write pictures to one connected to a PC from a scheduled script that would be great. If they use some sort of daft application to upload the images though I won't bother look into it any further.

I think most work off an SD card or some variant. If there IS a connected version I'm next to positive it will have some proprietary software app to control it :-(

This could be interesting: http://www.thinkgeek.com/electronics/cameras/94a5/ - or it could suck bawls. The RSS integration could be the ticket.

And what about a normal flat-screen monitor connected to a pc/server?

The more I think about all those electronic stuff in a house, the more I come to the conclusion it should all be simplified a lot and be controlled from one single location. Be it a pc, mac, server, etc.

Did you consider a regular monitor?

I did consider a monitor, but ideally I want something small and discrete .. just something I can put on a desk and have a sort of slideshow of graphs and gauges reporting the status of a website. Plus the running costs of a PC and monitor for something this trivial would be hard to justify.

Here's a thought: a Nokia n800 and/or an older Nokia 770. At the very least you could have a browser refresh a page of your choosing.

They have a built-in stand, and it could double as a portable tablet, if that's your thing. There are other features too, I'm sure.

You can find a dozen or more of each on eBay for relatively cheap.

I bought this one a couple months ago: http://www.thinkgeek.com/electronics/cameras/96a6/

No complaints about the display, but it does have a "Made in China" feel.

Yep, mine runs of an SD card.

You can get ones that retrieve pictures wirelessly from another PC, although, i would image these would be more expensive than the £30 i paid for mine!

In the sense that you have to take the SD card out, pop it into a card reader, and put the pics on that way? Or can you plug a USB cable into it and have a drive letter appear on you computer, using the photo frame itself as the card reader? Because if it's the second way I think my plan may work.
