If you could...

Post by alex.barylski »

Or rather given the opportunity to travel forward in time 100 years with *no* chance of return and you would only age by 5 minutes (according to theory of relativity) would you leave everything behind and go for it?

I realize if you have kids, etc this decision would be drastically more complex...but I'm single, no kids and have little desire to have any of it...I think I might go for it if given the chance...

I was watching time travel videos on YouTube incase your wondering where this bonkers question came from. :P

Merry Xmas :)

Well only reason to do that I guess is to see what new gadgets came out in 100y :) ..nothing else at all - and will have to shoot yourself once you see the new gadgets :)
You'll wake up ALONE...not knowing anybody..I am not talking about family or anything..just friends, people to chat with, ok there will be devnetwork :) but I guess people in it will be quite different.
My opinion, I don't want to. Not be cause I have lovely family and kid, just because I don't think life will be any good at all...with this pace of polluting, exhausting resources and all...I think Earth will be with lack of water resource, ugly, and not space left to live - I don't think hight tech will step in before it's not too late.

No, I wouldn't. Seems silly to me really. There is so much undiscovered cool stuff here now. Why would we want to miss out on all of it so we can see stuff from a 100 years from now that would really do you no good where you stand?

My curiosity for what time travel would be like might get the better of me, but tbh - all the "fancy" stuff that the future may have, or not have if any of the films are to be believed, would fast run out of novelty factor I reckon, and everything would become same-y. Yeah cool, they'd have the iPhone 3d mk789 but I'm already bored of the current iPhone.

Not to mention we'd be stuffed for employment.. I can see it now.. "OOP?! We haven't done that for over 50 years, n00b! It is ALL about the IBOP, baby!"

Most people I've asked...actually everyone said no...personally I don't quite see it the same way

Sure there would be some seirous hurdles...like spitting in public might result in the death penelty...homosexuals might be the norm not the minority and we may even be cyborgs at that point or partially anyways. Chips in our eyes instead of corrective lenses. Tracking and monitoring chips in your head...whatever...

If I had the money, I think I'd be cryogenically frozen and re-animated in 1,000 or so years...if all the novelties became common place...then so be it. As for not knowing anyone...well...I live a pretty secluded life already except the Internet and the Saturday evenings when I goto the bar...otherwise I'm pretty isolated out in the boondocks with me and my cat.

After watching that Mars Landing special on Discovery...I thought to myself...damn...I'm a perfect candidate...

- I work well in long term isolation
- My opinion almost always collides with at least someone
- I'm anal about hygeine
- Computers are obviously my thing - otherwise I wouldn't be here
- I appreciate the mechanics of high tech toys like airplanes, space shuttles, etc.
- I can eat just about anything and/or drink my own <span style='color:blue' title='I'm naughty, are you naughty?'>smurf</span> if nessecary
- I have en excellent sense of adventure

I have an innate curiosity...extremely nosey...I would love to be a test pilot...strap 100,000Lbs of thrust under ass and light me on fire...if anything shall fail at least I will exit this world in a bang... 8)

That reminds me...imagine the trip it would be travelling into the future at half the speed of light...jesus...

I've been in large commercial planes countless times in my life...and I've always loved that feeling of power and rumble...the feeling of thrust and acceleration can honestly bring tears to my eyes...stewardesses usually thinkg I'm crying in fear and try to calm me...hahaha...

Anyways...I think the future would be awesome...to see where we end up in terms of computers and programming and flying machines and teleportation...I have full plans on living forever just so I can see the future. :P
