Networking

Post by tecktalkcm0391 »

I want to have an External Hard drive shared on my wireless network (encrypted for sure), but where its alone, and doesn't have to have the computer it is currently hooked up to on. .... any ideas how to do this... i saw something one time, but now i can seem to find it.

Also, is there any way that i can set up my network so that if i am at my friends house (on their internet), I could still access the network computers, printers, and harddrive (hopefully if i get it to work), as if I was still at home?

Thanks!

There are network drives sold at just about any electronic/computer retailer. I'd look into that unless you want to use a computer as your network store (which I have done, but not sure I'd do it again).

I couldnt find anything on BestBuy, other than a $ 500 TB Network Drive.... I wanted to hookup my exisiting harddrive to something to make it like its one standalone harddrive.

Yeah, I saw something like this a while ago. thanks!

Would a VPN be something to look in to for my other question?
If so... do i need to buy something to set that up?

That's a pretty slick little device... it's the NAS version of the WRT54GL!
