A good recommended chat program?

Hey folks, I was super-interested in getting BlastChat, but I guess that only works with Joomla and Mambo. =/
I was wondering if you folks had any good suggestions for a chat client that could take the person's username, use that as their nick, and then send them to a chat. Bonus if you know one that allows me to ban/kick and make moderators.
If you don't, then do you know how hard it is to do this with IRC?

I've installed tufat's
flash chat and been extremely happy with it.
$5 is a coffee at starbucks, and the software was very well done. I encourage you to check it out. Sooooo worth it.

I've used
phpFreeChat, though never in production. Can't say I'd whole heartedly recommend it as I've not had tons of experience with it. Can't say I'd advise against it either.
I also rolled my own in a few days - that was entertaining. I wonder how easy it would be with JQuery?

I have the best system for a chat in the world. It is guaranteed to work by an expert web designer/developer, and is fully customizable!
Just make one!
All it takes is PHP & AJAX

I spent a couple of days building one, and it worked... pretty well, too. It was a great experience, and I learned a lot about XHR in the process (this was pre-jQuery).
I switched it out for Tufat's Flashchat after a little while instead of doing some bugfixing because I realized that $5 was worth about 5 minutes of my time - barely enough time to make tea & crack open my editor. This was an area I was happy to outsource. and I applaud Tufat for making a great product.
$5? Easiest decision of my day.

I use this one:
https://blueimp.net/ajax/
It's an Ajax (Javascript + PHP + MySQL) chatroom, open-source, and the developer allows you to use it for free as long as you keep a link to that site. It allows for moderators, guests, registered users, custom channels, themes, etc. I heavily modified it myself to make it use my game's user database and automatically log players into the chat based on their in-game cookies, and I also had to modify it so that it was smaller to fit in a small frame.. so it has worked very well for me. Check out my modified version on
Seeds of Time Online (you'll need to register and create a new account). They have a demo on their own site too. Oh and you can take the chatroom and have a "shoutbox" version of it too (something I didn't do as I had already written my own shoutbox). Very cool all around.

Very interesting game, Josh. I think I'll be going with that chat system.
