PHP/MySQL Certification?

Post by m3mn0n »

I've never really heard about this before. I did a google search for php+certification but to me they mean nothing since i don't know which one is best to go with, or even to go with one at all.

What is your view on this? Is it required for jobs, and how much of a plus would it be to a resumé?

I don't have a certificate and I don't think I'll need one, if anyone want to see how good you are, you should show them the best you can do with PHP/MySQL. If my memory is working I think we had a thread about this kinda stuff, and it ended up saying certificate is uselss... (well that's what I remember)

But I agree to my teacher's opinion. The more stuff you have(as in certificate etc.) the more door/window is open to you. So it might be better just getting a international one and not one of those tiny compan's certificate.

I dont think there is any certificate thinggy for PHP because PHP is a open-source program...!

You may want to check out BrainBench, they give exams with certifications, it is definetely not as good as a vendor-cert, but it cost a lot less and does prove to some point that you understand the basics anyway. I did quite a few of their tests myself, including PHP and MySQL, and I never paid for any of them as I was an earlycomer and I watch for new ones and sign up before they go into the non-free category

mysql now do their own certification program, so I would figure if you want something that means something you should check there first. Maybe be one of the first few to gain their approval :)
